Select and Modify
The Select and Modify button is found on the map's Menu and provides a way to visually select a set of features on the map and then perform a batch task on all of them.
Step 1: Use the drop down list to indicate the layer that contains the features you want to select. This tool can only be used to work with a single layer at a time.
Step 2: Select your features (see options below)
- Rectangle Selection Tool Use the rectangle select button to draw a rectangle and select all features in that rectangle. To do this first click the Select button. Now imagine a rectangle on the screen that surrounds just the features that you want to select. Move your mouse or finger to one corner of that rectangle and then press and hold down. While holding down, drag your mouse or finger to the opposite corner and then let go. Any features partially or completely inside the box will be selected and highlighted on the map and the Selection toolbar will display the number of selected features. Continue to draw additional rectangles to include more features in your selection. It is ok if your rectangles overlap because no feature will be selected twice.
- Fence Selection Tool Use the fence selection tool to free-hand draw a selection boundary on the map. Click the Fence button, then move the mouse onto the screen and press and hold down on the left mouse button. While holding down the button trace a perimeter surrounding the things you want to select. Release the mouse button after you have traced a complete loop.
- Single Feature Selection Tool For more precise control, use this button to select individual features or to unselect already selected features. Click the Feature button, then click on one or more features on the map to add or remove them from the selection.
- Boundary Selection Tool Use this button to use an already drawn area on the map as your selection area. Click the Boundary button, then select the layer that contains the boundary, then select the appropriate boundary by clicking inside that area feature on the map. Click Confirm if the correct boundary is selected or click Back to select a different area feature.
Step 3: Choose an action to perform on the selected features
After you have selected 1 or more features using any combination of the above selection methods, you can now choose an action to perform on these features.
- Delete Selected Features Select this action to delete all the selected features. Once a feature is deleted it is gone from both the display as well as the feature table of the browse screen.
- Change Layer Use this action to move or copy the selected features to another layer. See Move Feature To Different Layer.
- Export To CSV Select this action to generate a CSV file listing all features in your selection.
- Set Field Value Select this action to edit the text of a certain field of all of your selected features at once. See Set Field Value for more information.
- Adjust Points Select this action to shift the selected features a certain distance in any direction. This is often used to positionally correct some inaccurately drawn features to align with the aerial photography.
- Reverse Polylines If your layer is configured with the arrow line style then you will see this option in your action menu. Selecting this will reverse the direction of all lines you have selected. Any points or areas in your selection will remain unchanged. You can also reverse the direction of individual lines by choosing Reverse Polyline on the action menu of individual feature forms.
- Clear Selection This action just unselects all currently selected features so that you can start a new selection.
Other Notes
- You can also delete individual features by clicking on them in the map and then selecting "delete" from the list of actions on the feature form.
- You must have edit permission to delete features.
- These same actions can also be performed on a list of features produced by a search result. See action menu at bottom of browse screen.
