Create Custom Layer (AI)

When adding a new layer to your map, if you don't find a template that fits your needs then try our "Create Custom Layer" option on the layer template menu.  This will prompt you to describe the type of information you want to map and then Diamond Maps will use AI to generate a new layer customized to meet your needs.  You can be detailed in your description down to the types and names of fields, pick lists, and color coding rules.  Or you can just declare what you want to map and why and it will fill in all of these details.  Give it a try.  You may be surprised.  Below are some example descriptions .

Example 1

I need to inspect a parking lot and record every place that the asphalt or striping needs repaired

Example 2

I have been told to take inventory of all the sidewalks in town.  My thinking is to draw the centerline of each segment of sidewalk and record things like width, condition, date when it was last new, and maybe some checkboxes to indicate common defect types.  Plus please add any other fields that are commonly used by people who map out their sidewalks like this.  Color code the sidewalks according to their condition.

Additional Notes

  • In addition to explaining "what" you want to map, you will get the best results if you also explain "why".
  • It might also help to tell it what type of work your company does or what industry you work in.
  • Its ok to use trial and error.  Try it once. Look over the resulting layer. Then delete the layer and try it again.
  • Running this tool twice with the exact same layer description will not always produce the same results.
  • If you have created some special layers in Diamond Maps that are very proprietary to your company you can rest assured that none of your map layers or even the schema of those layers are used to train this AI layer generation model.  These suggestions come from the general GIS knowledge publicly available on the internet.
