Connecting A Trimble DA2 To Diamond Maps
Trimble is one of the most recognized brands in the GNSS market with a wide variety of products. But the one most commonly used by Diamond Maps customers is the DA2 with a Catalyst subscription. The instructions below were written specifically for the DA2 but the steps should be nearly identical for any Trimble GNSS device.

Diamond Maps Offline App | |||
Works great Some limitations Not compatible |
Step 1: DA2 Setup
- Power on your DA2
- Open your Bluetooth settings on your phone/tablet, find your DA2 in the list of available devices and pair or connect with that device.
- Go to your app store and download and install Trimble Mobile Manager (TMM).
- Open TMM, click the menu button in the upper left corner, click Sign In, and enter your Trimble login credentials. If you don't already have a Trimble login you will need to create one to use your catalyst subscription.
- Next open the TMM menu again and choose Licenses. Here you should see any active Catalyst subscriptions on your account. If you don't see any listed here then contact your Trimble rep to get this setup. The Catalyst subscription is needed to achieve the higher accuracy that the DA2 is capable of.
- Click the Configuration button in the bottom right corner of TMM. Change the Output to "Select from list". Then select "WGS84" as the GNSS output.
- Also on the Configuration screen, if you are in the continental United States change the Geoid to "Geoid18 (Conus)".
- Confirm that the light on the DA2 is blinking blue indicating that it is ready to connect. Then back on the TMM home screen, click Select and then choose your DA2 from the list of devices to connect to it. Note, if the light is already a solid blue BEFORE you connect to it then that means some other nearby phone/tablet is already connected to the DA2.
- Lastly, to confirm that all is working, check the TMM home screen where you should see some changing numbers such as Latitude, Longitude, and Accuracy. Note that you may need to go outside to get the DA2 to get a good view of the sky. And it may take a few minutes for it to start working the very first time you use it.
- Note: You must leave TMM running at all times for the DA2 to work with Diamond Maps.
Step 2: Diamond Maps Setup
Choose one of the 3 sections below based on how you are using Diamond Maps
2a: If you are using the Diamond Maps Offline app
- These instructions assume you already have a Diamond Maps account. If you don't then go to diamondmaps.com and start a free trial. See Video #201 for instructions on adding some layers to your map which you will need prior to proceeding.
- Go to your Android or Apple app store and install "Diamond Maps Offline". Open the app and enter your Diamond Maps user name and password. Then click the Download button to download one of your maps to your phone/tablet for offline use.
- Click on the map name to open the map.
- Click the Menu button and choose GPS Status
- Click the select button on the GPS Source line and select Trimble Mobile Manager
- Leave the source datum set to WGS84
- If your DA2 is mounted on a pole enter the pole height in the box provided.
- If you see Lat, Lon, and Accuracy readings changing in the grey box then that confirms that Diamond Maps is connected to the DA2 through Trimble Mobile Manager. Proceed to step 3.
2b: If you are running Diamond Maps in your browser on an Android Device
- Open your browser and go to diamondmaps.com and click the Sign In link to login and open your map. If you don't already have an account you can click the Start Free Trial button to create one. We recommend saving your map's web page as a home screen button on your phone/tablet.
- If you haven't already created any layers on your map you can do so by clicking Layers, then Add. To mark points with your DA2 you will need to create a point based layer such as valves or manholes.
- Click the Menu button in the map and choose "GPS Status"
- Change the Source to Trimble Mobile Manager.
- Set the Datum to WGS84.
- If your DA2 is mounted on a pole enter the pole height in the box provided.
- If you see Latitude, Longitude, and Uncertainty number changing on the screen that confirms Diamond Maps is connected to the DA2 through Trimble Mobile Manager. Proceed to step 3.
2c: If you are running Diamond Maps in your browser on an Apple Device
- The setup steps for an Apple phone/tablet are identical to the Android setup step above (2b) with the exception of the last step. Apple does not allow a secure website such as Diamond Maps to communicate with the TMM app. So in the last step of the above instructions you will actually get an error message. Click the link in the error message to switch to an alternate version of the Diamond Maps web page. Here you may need to repeat the GPS Status screen steps.
- Be sure to save this web page as a home screen button on your phone so that you can skip this step in the future.
Step 3: Start Collecting Points
