Connecting Other GPS/GNSS Devices to Diamond Maps
If you don't find your brand of GNSS device in the list of connection instructions that doesn't mean it won't work with Diamond Maps. If you have a modern device that is Bluetooth capable then there is a good chance it will work, especially if you are using an Android phone or tablet. See instructions below.
Android
If you are using an Android phone/tablet, our Diamond Maps Offline app will connect to just about any Bluetooth GPS/GNSS device.
- Start up the GNSS device and pair it with your phone. Confirm that the status lights on the GNSS device indicate that it is getting a position fix.
- Some GNSS devices come with a companion app for setting them up and monitoring them. If that is your case you typically have to close this app before another app like Diamond Maps can connect to the GNSS.
- Install the Diamond Maps Offline app and download your map.
- In the Diamond Maps Offline app click Menu - GPS Status,
- Next to GPS Source, click the Select button and then click Scan for Bluetooth Devices.
- Choose your paired device from the list
- You should immediately start seeing coordinates on the diagnostic window of the GPS Status screen indicating that you are connected.
Android With RTK
If your GNSS device is capable of receiving RTK corrections then you can use the NTRIP setup screen in Diamond Maps to connect to a correction network which will then feed these corrections back to the GNSS. Note that if you normally use the app that came with your GNSS device to do these RTK corrections that probably won't work in this case because most GNSS devices only allow one app to connect to them at a time.
Apple
If your GNSS device supports BLE communication then the Diamond Maps Offline app should work with it using the same steps described above in the Android section. Some GNSS devices, however, do not support BLE communication and instead use a special Apple MFi communication method. This requires the GNSS manufacturer to work with Diamond Maps to get the two authorized to talk to each other.
Let Us Test It
If you are a GNSS manufacturer (or customer) and could send us a loaner unit we would love to test it and document how to connect it to Diamond Maps. Please contact us at +1 317-939-6941
